Respect for diversity and non-discrimination — through film and dialogue

On February 15, an educational event on human rights education titled “Respect for Diversity and Non-Discrimination” took place at the High Hub Youth Center.

Young people watched the documentary film “Karla and Nordahl” from the Docudays UA film club repertoire, which raises important issues of acceptance, otherness, and the right to be oneself. After the screening, there was a lively discussion — teenagers shared their impressions, talked about their own experiences, and discussed how stereotypes influence attitudes toward others.

A special part of the event was the interactive exercise “Step Forward.” Participants were assigned different social roles: a child from a wealthy family, an internally displaced person, a teenager from a village, a person with a disability, a successful entrepreneur, and a single mother raising a child on her own.

Following the rules of the game, the teenagers had to take a step forward or stay in place depending on the opportunities and life circumstances of their character. The exercise clearly demonstrated how social status, place of residence, or other circumstances affect people’s lives.

The events are held within the framework of the project “Skills of the Third Millennium,” implemented by the Municipal Institution Youth Center “High Hub” of the Vysochan Settlement Council, with the support of the Kharkiv Community Foundation “Toloka,” within the “Pulse of the Community” project, funded by the Global Fund for Community Foundations.
