On September 12, 2024, the SmartCommunity OKC hosted two events organized by the Youth Center High Hub, bringing together young people to actively discuss important social issues!
The interactive game “Mafia: Diversity” not only allowed participants to enjoy the gameplay but also prompted them to reflect on how stereotypes influence their perception of others. By discussing their roles, participants noticed how prejudices could alter their attitudes towards one another and concluded that developing critical thinking and openness is crucial.
Maria, 12 years old: “I love the game ‘Mafia,’ and ‘Mafia: Diversity,’ in addition to the gameplay, allows us to discuss important social issues like the social exclusion of certain groups.”
The training on promoting equality and tolerance, “Equal Listening,” was also insightful and educational. Participants learned about various types of listening—ranging from empathetic to ignoring—and discussed their positive and negative aspects. Practical exercises demonstrated how attentive listening can enhance understanding and trust among individuals.
Polina, 13 years old: “I always feel good among my friends, and today, during the equal listening sessions, I also had the chance to discuss various interesting topics with them.”
These events not only broadened the youth’s worldview but also marked another step towards building a more tolerant and aware community within our society.
The project is implemented by the “Association of Youth Leaders of Ukraine” and “NGO Youth Platform” within the USAID Ukraine – USAID Ukraine Dream and Act program, executed by IREX in Ukraine.
