On March 12. How to tell the stories of a city through a small handmade magazine?
An initiative youth group from the city of Liubotyn called “Vnutrishnist” held a meeting at our Youth Center “HIGH HUB” in the format of a Living Library. Kateryna Devyatko, Kateryna Basenko, Alina Kovrizhna spoke about themselves, their activities, and about zines — a self-publishing format in which memories, history, art, and personal observations can be combined.
Kateryna spoke about how zine culture emerged in the world and in Ukraine, and why the DIY format still remains an important tool for documenting local stories.
In the second part, the girls from “Vnutrishnist” presented their own zine “Kharkivskyi Demokrit 2.0” — a publication about a 200-year-old estate in Liubotyn that is currently in an аварійний state.
And our visitors tried to create their own zine from a single sheet!
At the end of the event, the library of the High Hub Youth Center was replenished with an author’s zine from our guests, and the boys and girls from Vysochansk went home with their own zines and gifts.
The events are held within the framework of the project “Skills of the Third Millennium,” implemented by the Municipal Institution Youth Center “HIGH HUB” of the Vysochanska Village Council with the support of the Kharkiv Community Foundation “Toloka” within the project “Community Pulse,” funded by the Global Fund for Community Foundations.
