Art Therapy for Veterans: Recovery Through Creativity
NGO “Wives of ATO Veterans” continues trainings on psychological support for veterans. This time, the veterans had the opportunity to attend a class where they were engaged in art therapy.
“Art therapy is an important tool in the psychological support of veterans, as it helps relieve stress and improve morale. The drawing process allows veterans to focus on the creative process, which helps distract from anxious thoughts and lower anxiety levels. It also contributes to internal balance and improving the quality of life,” said the psychologist of the project, Serhii Usenko.
After the class, the veterans were in a great mood, full of positive emotions. Everyone shared their thoughts about the training and showed each other their drawings. The training was able to give the veterans a feeling of lightness and carefreeness, as well as the opportunity to return to childhood. Art therapy became an important step towards the psychological recovery of veterans.
This project was created by the NGO “Wives of ATO Veterans” with the support of ISAR Unity within the framework of the project “Initiative of sectorial support of civil society”, implemented by ISAR Unity in a consortium with the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Research and the Center for Democracy and the Rule of Law thanks to the sincere support of the American people, provided through The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and within the framework of the “WORTH: UNITY” competition program, which is financed from the state budget through the Ukrainian Veterans’ Fund of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
