LEARNED TO ACT AND BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES
In the settlement of Vysokyi, children and teenagers were invited to the High Hub youth center to watch the documentary film “House with Chimeras”.
The film was presented by the head of the Docudays UA film club “DUMAy!” Yurii Chumak.
The film helped to understand that even one person, well aware of their rights, can achieve a lot. The main character, Oleksandr Hlukhov, remained for over 10 years the only resident and the de facto “guardian” of the famous Murashko estate in the center of the capital. Thanks to his perseverance, the house could not be demolished or “quietly” destroyed. And in 2015, the estate was returned through the court to the ownership of the Kyiv community (taken back from private structures associated with Yanukovych’s “family”).
After the screening, the youth were invited to take part in a brainstorming session “How to protect rights”. This made it possible to recall the legal tools that citizens can use even without a legal education: applications, complaints, petitions, information requests, community meetings, peaceful assemblies, обращения to the ombudsman (the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights).
At the end, participants sculpted positive symbols and objects from “air” plasticine, played the card game “Best Version of Yourself,” and took part in a “Circle of Support.” This contributed to self-discovery, personal growth, and the development of confidence in their own abilities.
Feedback from event participants:
“I liked the story from the film because it shows that even one person, if they do not give up, can change something for the better.”
“It was interesting to learn how you can really protect your rights. I had not previously thought that there are so many ways to do this.”
“I really liked the ‘Circle of Support’ – it was surprisingly pleasant and helped me believe in myself.”
This meeting once again proved: when young people gain knowledge about their rights, support, and the opportunity for self-expression, they begin to believe that they are capable of influencing their lives and the world around them.
