Psychological Rehabilitation in a Circle of Peers: Support and Relief for Veterans

The NGO “Veterans’ Wives” held another session of psychological rehabilitation for veterans of the Russo-Ukrainian war. Participants were offered several activities to choose from, including stress-relief coloring and expressive writing, which allows for the release of inner emotions through words. Veterans had the opportunity to select what best suited their needs and focus on processes that aid in restoring psychological balance.

Additionally, during the sessions, veterans could communicate with each other, discuss their experiences, and support one another. This created a warm and trusting atmosphere where everyone felt the support of their comrades. Many participants noted that they felt relief after these discussions and therapeutic activities.

Psychologist Serhii Usenko, who facilitated the sessions, remarked:

“It is important for veterans to have a space where they can not only relax but also share their feelings with those who have walked a similar path. Such sessions help to relieve internal tension and find new resources to combat stress. We are always here, ready to help and support every veteran.”

These sessions are not only a way to alleviate stress but also an important step toward deeper recovery after the trials faced.

This project was created by the NGO “Veterans’ Wives of ATO” with the support of ISAR Ednannia within the framework of the project “Initiative for Sectoral Support of Civil Society,” implemented by ISAR Ednannia in consortium with the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Research and the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law, thanks to the sincere support of the American people provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and within the framework of the “VARTO: EDNANNIA” grants program, funded from the state budget through the Ukrainian Veteran’s Fund of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.
