On Friday, December 13, the Cultural and Educational Center “Vysokyi,” located in the “Old Pharmacy,” hosted renowned Ukrainian writer Lyudmyla Okhrimenko at the invitation of the Youth Center High Hub. Okhrimenko is a recipient of the “Oscar” award for the best war-themed novel at the International “Crown of Words” competition (2021) and laureate of the Mykola Tomenko Prize for her book Volunteer Stories (2023).
During the event, she presented her works and shared her inspiring journey—from a Russian-speaking girl from Crimea to a conscious Ukrainian citizen, active public figure, volunteer, and writer who sheds light on the turbulent events of our time.
“I was moved to tears because they [the readers] came through dark streets (the meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m.) and waited while we wandered in search of the building,” Lyudmyla Okhrimenko wrote on her Facebook page. “Inside, a stove was burning, a generator hummed in the courtyard, and we talked about literature, the war, volunteering, love—about everything, everything, everything!
Sending hugs to you, the High people, or the people from Vysokyi!”
