On July 17, a film screening of “The Wild Fields” took place at the Youth Center “HAY HUB” of the Vysochanska Village Council, with the participation of Serhiy Zhadan and Mykhailo Ozerov, followed by a discussion.
“The Wild Fields” is a Ukrainian adventure “eastern” film based on the cult novel Voroshylovgrad by Serhiy Zhadan. The director of the film is Yaroslav Lodyhin, and it is his debut work. The movie was released in Ukrainian cinemas on November 8, 2018.
As Serhiy Zhadan noted, unfortunately, the film had a limited theatrical release. At that time, Ukrainian cinema was not in demand among domestic distributors, who scheduled inconvenient screening times and allowed only one or two weeks of distribution.
Today, the film has not lost its relevance. Many of its themes and ideas have taken on new meanings: fighting “for what’s yours,” identity, and connection to one’s homeland. Especially impressive are the panoramic shots of the Donbas landscapes: the right bank of the Aidar River, the night steppe of the “wild field”—the lands we are fighting for and will definitely return to Ukrainian control.
The event was attended by the Head and members of the KHARKIV REGIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PUBLIC ORGANIZATIONS OF DISABLED PERSONS AND WAR VETERANS, led by Colonel Oleksandr Zalivan. A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Youth Center and the Union in the field of national-patriotic education of youth.
We thank the Serhiy Zhadan Charitable Foundation for its continuous support and for organizing this event!
