As part of the international campaign “16 Days Against Violence,” the High Hub Youth Center hosted an event in Vysoke on December 2 dedicated to the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.
Although slavery was officially abolished in 1861 in Russia, its population still struggles to shed a “slave mentality,” blindly following their rulers’ commands, even to their detriment.
Modern crimes such as human trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced labor, and other human rights violations are among the gravest crises of our time.
During the meeting, we discussed with young people issues such as:
- The forced recruitment of children for armed conflicts,
- Forced marriages, bride sales, widow inheritance,
- Sexual exploitation and abduction—crimes that still persist in today’s world.
Participants learned how to avoid falling into the hands of criminals and what actions to take if faced with danger. Through videos and discussions, we explored signals that can be used to alert others.
After the insightful conversation, participants enjoyed playing the beloved traditional game, Mafia, which is regularly held at the OYC “Vysokyi.”
