SANCTIFICATION OF THE SEED
On March 5, 2024, the Holy Church commemorates the five holy martyrs of Canon Mandonsky (farmer). On this day, the parish in honor of Reverend Agapit Pechersky prayerfully celebrated with a prayer song with an akathist to the saint.
After the divine service, God’s blessing was asked for the beginning of garden work and the seeds were consecrated.
The holy martyr Konon the gardener was born in Nazareth of Galilee, and lived in the city of Mandoni, where he was engaged in gardening. He was a God-fearing man, kind, simple-hearted, not angry. The saint suffered for his faith in Christ under the emperor Decia (249–251). When he was brought to trial, he steadfastly and firmly professed his faith. The tormentors drove nails into his legs and drove him in front of the chariot until the martyr fell exhausted, giving his soul to the Lord with a prayer.
PRAYER FOR SANCTIFICATION OF THE SEED
Lord our God, from Your most pure and abundant hand we brought the seed that lies before Your eyes, and we pray to You, Lord: we do not dare to sow it in the soulless bowels of the earth, if we do not look at the command of Your Majesty, which commands the earth to give birth and sprout and to give seed to the sower, and bread for consumption. And now we pray to You, our God, hear us, who beg You, and reveal to us Your treasure, great, and good, and heavenly, and send blessings, until I am satisfied with Your true promise; and drive away from us everything that destroys our earthly fruit and all kinds of punishment that is righteously inflicted on us for our sins; and Your rich bounties descended on all Your people, by the grace and love of humanity of Your Only Begotten Son, with whom You are blessed, with Your Most Holy and Good and Life-creating Spirit, now and always, and to the ages of ages. Amen.
