Fairy Tale Therapy: A Safe Space for the Soul
As part of the psychological support project for veterans and their families, the NGO “Wives of Veterans” held a session with psychologist Serhii Usenko in the format of fairy tale therapy.
A fairy tale is not just a children’s story. During the event, participants collaboratively created a plot, worked with images, and experienced emotions that are often hidden deep inside and not easily expressed in words. Through symbols, play, and a safe atmosphere, everyone was able to feel how even the most difficult experiences can find their place and be transformed.
“Fairy tale therapy helps a person talk with and about themselves in ways that are not always possible in ordinary conversation. Veterans and their family members often face intense emotions that are hard to voice. A fairy tale provides a gentle path to inner strength, helping to reduce anxiety, process losses, and regain a sense of support. In a fairy tale, the hero always overcomes challenges — and this gives the feeling that there is always a way forward,” explained Serhii Usenko.
We are grateful to everyone who participated in the session and to our psychologist for their professional and warm work. We care for those who have defended us — and those who are alongside them every day.
The project is implemented with the support of the KSE Foundation — the charitable fund of the Kyiv School of Economics.
