The past few days have been difficult…
You could literally feel it in the air, in the silence between explosions, in the darkness of the entrances when the lights went out for long stretches and the city seemed to freeze. After the massive shelling, Kharkiv found itself once again in a state that is impossible to get used to, even though we all seem to have already seen too much.
The team of the NGO “Veterans’ Wives” delivered humanitarian aid to the residents of Kharkiv: food packages, medicines, and essential supplies. Seemingly ordinary things, but in these moments they take on a completely different weight. When there is no light and anxiety follows anxiety, even a package of grains or a needed pill becomes a support.
We drove into courtyards that were dark even during the day. People came out cautiously, some with flashlights, some just following the sound of the car. There were many words of gratitude, but even more — looks that revealed exhaustion. And at the same time, a strange kind of strength, a desire to keep going despite everything.
In such moments, you especially understand why we do this. Not for reports or checkmarks, but so that people know they are not alone. That even in the dark, without light and amid shattered silence, there are those who will come, support, and simply be there.
Kharkiv endures. And we are together with it.
Thanks to Igor Korsunsky, Julia Preshman Korsunsky, Oksana Bondar, and the Rememberus.org foundation for supporting this humanitarian initiative. Thanks to you, these food packages and medicines became not abstract aid, but real things in the hands of Kharkiv residents at a very difficult moment.
Thank you for your trust, your care, and for the fact that together we can make Kharkiv a little warmer even when everything around is dark.
With support GO “Wives of Veterans”
