On October 8th, the guest at the Live Library event at the High Hub Youth Center was Oleksiy Shapovalov, Head of the Regional Branch of AMCU “Youth Hub Network of Kharkiv Region.”
The topic of the meeting was “YOUTH LEADER: WHAT IS THE SUPERPOWER OF YOUTH?” Oleksiy shared his journey in public activism, from being a member of the Pervomaisk City Council to becoming a youth leader in the Kharkiv region. He also spoke about the creation of the Youth Hub “Komora” in Pervomaisk, one of the first in Ukraine, and the prospects for youth development in the public sector.
Iryna, 21 years old: “I came to the Live Library to listen to Oleksiy’s success story and decide on the future direction of my personal development. His story showed that it is the youth who should take charge in their communities, and we should take advantage of new opportunities in grant projects today.”
The group career counseling session “PROFESSIONS RELEVANT TO THE YOUTH OF VYSOKYI COMMUNITY” presented the results of research conducted by active participants in the career counseling direction.
The survey results revealed the following:
- Most respondents are unsure whether they plan to work in Ukraine after completing their education (60%). Only 33% intend to stay, while 7% said they plan to seek opportunities abroad.
- Most young people plan to acquire professional skills through university education (73%). At the same time, self-study through courses and online platforms is also a popular option (60%). Other options, such as internships (20%) and mentorship (13%), are less in demand.
- Interesting professions. The most appealing professions for the youth are designers (40%), IT specialists (33%), doctors (27%), and marketers (27%).
- Potential career paths. Blogging and entrepreneurship are seen as promising careers for 20% of respondents. Programmers, psychologists, and medical professionals attract 13% of the respondents each.
This is a brief analysis of the survey conducted among young people aged 14 to 17 in the Vysokyi community (over 60 respondents).
Yaroslav, 14 years old: “It was interesting to learn the survey results and compare them with my own feelings. I agree with most of the conclusions, and I think the survey reflects the views of the majority of young people in our community.”
The project is implemented by the Association of Youth Leaders of Ukraine in partnership with NGO Youth Platform as part of the USAID Ukraine – Dream and Act program, executed by IREX in Ukraine.
