A Regional Forum Held in Kharkiv: “Training Specialists in Vocational Education Centers of the State Employment Service: Educating Ukrainians for Business Needs”
Kharkiv hosted a regional forum involving representatives from business, education, and government institutions. The event focused on addressing labor market challenges, meeting businesses’ demands for qualified personnel, and exploring training opportunities provided by the Kharkiv Vocational Training Center of the State Employment Service.
Before the forum, business representatives toured the training and production workshops at the Kharkiv Vocational Training Center. They were introduced to the facility’s capabilities and the professions it trains for. Visitors explored workshops for sewing, metalworking, construction, information processing and software, as well as laboratories for UAV operation and agricultural machinery training.
During the forum, Yuliia Zhovtiak, Director of the State Employment Center, emphasized the mission of the Employment Service: ensuring everyone seeking work can find a job and every business in need of staff can meet its demand.
“We live by the principle: live and work in Ukraine. We implement this through recruitment programs, training, grants, and compensation projects. All we need from businesses and job seekers is a request, and we’ll take care of the execution,” Zhovtiak stated.
Oleksandr Kotukov, Director of the Kharkiv Regional Employment Center, highlighted the acute workforce shortage in the region. “There is one unemployed person per vacancy, yet their qualifications often don’t meet employers’ requirements. Particularly scarce are turners, fitters of various specializations, electricians, welders, milling machine operators, drivers, doctors, engineers, and lawyers. Public institutions struggle to retain staff due to competition with private companies,” he noted.
The forum provided a valuable platform for experience exchange, networking, and advancing professional education, fostering the growth of Ukraine’s business workforce.
The event attracted 278 participants.
