The choice that should never exist in old age…
When we plan our expenses, we think about household needs, development, or small pleasures. But yesterday in Bohodukhiv, the girls from our NGO “Wives of Veterans” faced a completely different, harsh reality. A reality where elderly people live alone with their hardships, forgotten behind four walls. We delivered humanitarian food packages to help ease their daily lives, and there we heard words that are impossible to forget. Mrs. Mariia held the aid in her hands and simply cried. These were not only tears of gratitude but also of immense relief. Through tears, she admitted: “Girls, now I will be able to save the coins I would have spent on food and finally buy medicine… I really need it, but I simply couldn’t afford it.”
Try to imagine this for a moment. An elderly person every day choosing between buying bread or taking medication for blood pressure or the heart. A choice between hunger and illness.
It should not be like this.
These packages are not just grains or canned goods. They are weeks of peace for Grandma Mariia. They are her chance to take the necessary medicine without worrying about what she will eat tomorrow.
