Self-expression through clay — art therapy that heals the soul
The NGO “Wives of Veterans” continues implementing a psychological support program for veterans and their family members. This time, a group training was held with psychologist Serhiy Usenko — “Self-Expression Through Clay as a Method of Art Therapy.”
During the session, participants immersed themselves in the creative process, where clay became a language of emotions. Through these simple yet profound movements, people found calm, self-trust, and a sense of light that helps ease anxiety. Working with the material promoted the release of tension, restoration of inner balance, and a return to a sense of personal strength.
“When hands touch clay, the body’s deep memory is activated. A person learns to listen to themselves, restoring feelings of control, stability, and creative power. This is especially important for those who have experienced loss, pain, or prolonged stress,” said psychologist Serhiy Usenko.
Such activities help veterans and their loved ones not only find calm but also experience unity, support, and a safe space where they can simply be themselves.
The project is implemented with the support of the KSE Foundation — the charitable foundation of the Kyiv School of Economics.
